The parking lot at Þingvellir
If a guest has a P-tag in their car, there is no need to pay. However, the person in question must stop by the visitor center at Haki to deregister the license plate from the camera system.
The payment system at Haki is based on a camera surveillance system that compares car license plates with the Icelandic Transport Authority's license plate register. When driving away, the numbers are compared with the national park's payment system.
Payment machines are located inside the visitor center and in the restrooms next to the visitor center at Haki. There are also payment machines at the parking lot at Valhallarreitinn P5 and at the parking lot below Öxarárfoss P2.
- P1 - Check the upper end of Almannagjár where the National Park Visitor Center is located.
- P2 - Efri-Vellir which is below Öxarárfoss, third layer on Valhallarplan.
- P3 - Long path north of Öxarárfoss waterfall where you walk up from Stekkjargjá.
- P5 - Valhöll, which is the closest parking lot to Þingvellir Church and the Silfra Gorge.
There are no fines for not paying on site, but instead using automatic lookup. In those cases, the car owner will receive a parking fee sent to their online bank account, plus a bank transfer fee.
NOTE! If the car is owned by another party, such as a car rental company, fees may be added from the party that owns the car.
